Looking for Trouble
Stacey Mosteller
(Nashville U #1)
Published by: Swoon Romance
Publication date: September 20th 2016
Genres: New Adult, Romance
She’s:
Uptight
Sheltered
Allergic to fun

He’s:
Cocky
Crude
Unapologetic
He’s all dirty jokes and curse words, while she’s quiet and shy. She blends into the background, while he is the center of everyone’s attention.
Clay Mitchell never expected to fall in love. Especially not with a girl he’s known all his life and one who’s always been off-limits.
Opposites might attract, but in this case of explosive chemistry, someone’s heart is bound to be shattered.
As enemies become friends and friends morph into more; Clay has definitely met his match.
EXCERPT:
Kat
“Little brother forgot about you?” Hearing his voice again makes me grit my teeth in annoyance. I stare straight ahead, shoving my phone back into my pocket and crossing my arms over my chest. I refuse to give him any attention after what just happened. When he realizes I’m not going to respond, he sighs. “C’mon, let me give you a ride. Max probably just fell asleep or something.”
He reaches for my elbow, and I jerk out of his reach. “No, that’s okay. I’ll just go back to my room and wait for him. He’ll probably be there by the time I get there.”
Clay makes a noise in his throat, but I’m not sure if he’s agreeing with me or not. “Or, you could just come with me and yell at him sooner.” “You know you want to,” he continues to cajole me. “Just think how bad he’s going to feel knowing you had to bum aride from me. When you finally forgive him, he’ll be ready to promise you anything. Hell, that assmunch will probably give you his car if you want it.” He bumps shoulders with me, a hopeful grin on his face.
I can’t stop the answering grin that crosses mine. “Please, like anyone would want the Great Pumpkin.” My face flames as soon as the words leave my mouth. I clap my hands over it like it’s enough to bring them back, but it’s too late. Ohmigod! I’ve never told anyone my secret name for Max’s car. He’s going to kill me if he finds out.
Clay doubles over laughing, muttering, “Great Pumpkin. Holy shit, that’s funny. Great Pumpkin!” I’ve never seen him laugh so hard. He’s almost in tears. Once he calms himself down, he looks over at me, a huge smile on his face. “That’s classic. I can’t wait to see his face when I tell him what you call his precious baby.”
“No!” I shriek, dropping my hands from my mouth and holding them out towards him. “Clay. Seriously. You can’t tell him! He’d be so mad. You have to promise. Please! I’ll do anything!” Shit! I didn’t mean to say that.
Clay looks over at me, his grin even wider. I didn’t think it could get bigger than it already was. “Anything? Hmm, that could be interesting.”
He looks like he’s considering his options, so I hurry to clarify, “Anything that isn’t sexual, illegal or immoral.” Clay’s face falls, and swear to God, he pouts.
“Well, you’re no fun.”
I roll my eyes. “No, I’m just not stupid and I don’t want to end up expelled or in jail orthe health clinic because you gave me the Clap.”
“The Clap?!” Clay puts a hand over his heart, gasping like he’s wounded. “I can’t believe you’d think that of me, Kitty Kat. I always, always wrap my guy. No STD’s here.” He runs his hand down his stomach, resting it on the button of his jeans as he leers at me. “Don’t be shy, little kitten. If you want to see, you just have to ask.”
Cringing away from him, I make a gagging sound. “You’re such a pig. I wouldn’t touch you if you were the last guy on Earth, and it was up to us to procreate.”

The Surrendered
Case Maynard
Published by: Blaze Publishing
Publication date: September 20th 2016
Genres: Dystopian, Young Adult
After a financial collapse devastates the United States, the new government imposes a tax on the nation’s most valuable resource—the children.
Surrendered at age ten—after her parents could no longer afford her exorbitant fees—Vee Delancourt has spent six hard years at the Mills, alongside her twin, Oliver. With just a year to freedom, they do what they can to stay off the Master’s radar. But when Vee discovers unspeakable things happening to the younger girls in service, she has nochoice but to take a stand—a decision that lands her on the run and outside the fence for the first time since the System robbed her of her liberty.
Vee knows the Master will stop at nothing to prove he holds ultimate authority over the Surrendered. But when he makes a threat that goes beyond what even she considers possible, she accepts the aid of an unlikely group of allies. Problem is, with opposing factions gunning for the one thing that might save them all, Vee must find a way to turn oppression and desperation into hope and determination—or risk failing all the children and the brother she left behind.
EXCERPT:
A sinking feeling washes over me. “We’re going to Meadowood.”
He responds without opening his eyes, “I want answers.”
I start to argue that this will be a fool’s errand, but in truth, I want the same answers he does. “Do you think the man who rescued Oliver was with the Southies?”
“I don’t know who else it could’ve been.” He sits up and stretches. “It must’ve been them, and I want to know why they changed the plan without informing us. The Master and his Regulators got to the rooftop very quickly after I fired that shot. I have to wonderif someone told them we were there.”
“You think the Southies took Oliver to get the combination and then set the Regulators on us? Why would they do that?”
He rubs his face. “It doesn’t make any sense. But something’s not adding up.”
I ponder this, thinking about my brother’s strange plea. “I know you think I’m insane, but I can’t help but feel like Oliver knew someone was going to take him; I swear it felt like he was speaking to me when he said not to interfere. But that doesn’t make any sense, either. He’s been behind the fence for years.”
Cason yawns and tries to shake off the effects of the Papaver. “I don’t think you’re crazy; his message did seem odd for someone who was about to hang for a crime he didn’t commit. I don’t know, but hopefully he’ll be at Meadowood and you can ask him yourself.”
My mood elevates as I realize I may only be hours away from a reunion with my brother. The pain in my arm forgotten, I try to concentrate only on this knowledge, confident we’ll have our answers soon enough. “I didn’t get a chance to thank you for earlier. You could’ve just turned me over to the Master and walked away, but you didn’t.I’m grateful for that.”
I feel a little embarrassed as soon as the words leave my mouth. Normally I’m not one to share my feelings, but the Papaver Flower makes me breathless and lightheadedand loosens my tongue.
He reaches for me, careful not to jostle my splinted wrist, and pulls my face to his. “I’m probably going to ruin that sentiment by telling you the Master would never have let me go anyway, but know this—” he runs the pad of his thumb along my lower lip and meets my eyes “—if everyone else in the entire world leaves you to fend for yourself, if your father, your mother, your brother disappoint you, if God himself decides you aren’t worthy . . . you’ll still be able to count on me. I’ve got your back, Vera.”

Something I Need
Lena Lowe
(xoxo Nashville, #1)
Publication date: September 14th 2016
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance
Jonte Williamson has a dream: become Nashville’s next big star. Finding herself unexpectedly homeless hot off the plane wasn’tpart of her grand plan.
Cash Bellini is a simple man: he loves his twin sister, Dolly, hates country music, and stays far away from anything more complicated than that.
When Jonte stumbles into Cash’s bar, helping out the homeless country music wannabe is the last thing on his agenda. Pity someone forgot to send the memo to his too-big heart and meddling twin. Throw in a pair of baby blue cowboy boots, a pool tableand a splash of tequila, and these two are set to ignite in a hot sexy mess! Will either of their hearts survive the tug-o-war between what they want and what they need?

EXCERPT
“I don’t know if it’s good or bad that you’re a cheap drunk.” He shook his head and brushed the hair off her face. The simple act had his heart rate galloping, like a racehorse sprinting the final half-mile at the Kentucky derby, and he had to force his hands away from her. Wow. She was exquisite, even half-drunk at one in the morning.
“I’m not cheap.” She huffed, all indignant-like before a drunk girl giggle escaped. She stumbled towards the jukebox.
“Christ, what are you up to now?”
“Finding something to sing to.”
Of course. Now she wanted to sing. That made perfect sense. Cash followed her, his philosophy that all women were crazy reaffirmed.
“I already told you, there’s no country music on that thing.”
“You lie.” She flashed him a smile that made his insides flip-flop, and started shimmying to the beat of Kid Rock’s “All Summer Long.”
He focused on the hypnotic sway of her hips. Crap. He was her boss now; he couldn’t watch her do shit like this.
“This isn’t exactly country.”
“Dance with me.” She ignored his comment and grabbed for his arms.
“I don’t really dance.” He side stepped her with a low chuckle.
Jonte skipped past him and danced around the pool table. She sang the first two lines of the chorus and then broke into another giggle fit. He was about to point out that she’d gotten some of the words wrong, but she suddenly said, “What do you think he means when he says different things?”
“Who knows with that dude?”
“Hahahaha, you just said dude.”
It was well and truly time to wrap things up for the night. He needed to get Jonte upstairs so she could sleep or pass out or whatever. But she looked so carefree dancing around the pool table, so much more relaxed than he’d seen her the past few days. All right, so she was half cut, but she was happy.
“Do you have a lake at your ranch?” she asked, but became fixated on trying to unknot the T-shirt he’d given her earlier.
“What are you doing?”
“I smell like beer.” She fumbled with the knot for a minute but finally managed to yank the top over her head. “Do you have a lake at your ranch?” She repeated her unanswered question and walked towards him, watching him the whole way.
“No, but we have a river. Why?”
Her head dropped to one side and she looked straight at him, the flecks of gold in her hazel doe eyes almost catching fire. “Do you make love to girls out there, like in the song?”
Shit. This was not good. Cash ran his hands through his hair and let out the breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding in. “I think it’s time I took you upstairs.”
“Do girls go for the whole white knight thing you’ve got going on?”
“Jonte.”
“Cash.” She mimicked the reprimanding tone in his chide, clearly mocking him. He didn’t care. He liked her sass.
She was standing so close now. Her breath swirled around him. The lime from the tequila was mingling with the vanilla scent he’d learned over the past few days was all her. He knew he should step back. He knew he should take her upstairs, put her to bed, and leave.
“I don’t do anything fun,” Jonte said, practically pouting, her nose all scrunched up, her perfect lips smooshed together.
“You don’t?” Crap. That wasn’t what he was supposed to say. He was supposed to ignore her ramblings and the please-do-naughty-things-to-me look in her eyes. He was supposed to drag her half-drunk ass up the stairs, get on his bike, and go home. Alone.
“Noooooope. That’s why I ran away from home.”
“Aren’t you a little old to be running away from home, sweetheart?”
“You have sexy eyes. I think you could be fun.”

The Tokyo Cover Girls
Jackie Amsden
(The Tokyo Cover Girls , #1)
Publication date: April 28th 2016
Genres: Mystery, Young Adult
New York has Jacobs, Paris has Chanel, Milan has Versace and Tokyo has . . . Hello Kitty toilet plungers? With its cute-obsessed catalogue and magazine market, anyone who is anyone knows that modeling in Japan means being at the bottom of the fashion industry. Blake, Jess, and Hailey are doing their best to survive yet another casting where pigtails and toddler-impressions are a must when they stumble upon the opportunity of a lifetime. The prestigious Satsujin company has selected them to compete for a campaign that will transform the winner from commercial nobody to haute couture superstar faster than you can say Vogue Italia.
Of course, nothing is ever what it seems in the fashion world. Just ask all those dead girls . .

EXCERPT
  • Hailey stared at the small screen mounted above the elevator’s sliding doors as Blake
and Jess performed last-minute hair and face touch-ups. A Japanese woman dressed
entirely in maroon leather stood next to them in the small space, typing something into
    her iPhone.
    18. 19. 20.
“How much does this one pay, anyway?” Blake stared into a leopard-print compact, a
tube of MAC Lipglass pressed to her mouth.
“The client will explain,” said Yuki. Their booker had broad shoulders and features
that looked like hastily scrawled handwriting—small eyes, a sharp nose and a mouth that
turned into an upside-down W when she frowned. Hailey sometimes wondered what
shape it made when she smiled. She lifted her gaze back to the screen.
    90. 91. 92.
They had only been to one casting so far that had taken place in a high-rise and even
then it had only been on the 17
    th
    floor.
“There is an actual guarantee though, right?’” said Jess.
    156, 157, 158.
Wow. They were officially higher than the CN Tower. Where were they going?
“Trust me, this is casting is a very good opportunity.” Yuki pointed her index figure
at them as she talked and Hailey couldn’t help but notice that it was covered in callouses
and her nail was scratched and scuffed. She frowned. Those were pretty rough hands for
    a modeling agent, weren’t they?
The elevator pinged and Hailey looked up to see that the numbers had been replaced
by a single word: Penthouse. The doors slid open.
    “But how good?” said Blake.
“No more questions! Just be on your best behavior. Now hurry. We don’t want to
keep the client waiting!” said Yuki.
Jess and Blake headed out. Hailey was about to follow them when she felt a hand grip
    her wrist.
“Hailey, that goes especially for you,” said Yuki.
    “Pardon?” said Hailey.
  • “A client told me that you didn’t want to put on your bathing suit for the casting
    yesterday.”
“Oh, uh…” said Hailey. How did Yuki know that? After the girls had knocked over
the wall and ripped the sample dress, Hiro had insisted that they leave the casting right
away and so they had missed their turn altogether.
    “But how did you—”
“And what are you wearing?” Yuki gestured toward Hailey’s dress. “It looks like an
    old tablecloth.”
    “But I—”
“Never mind. Just wear something more professional next time. What I am most
concerned about is your weight. Your waist looks very bloated.”
    “Bloated?” said Hailey.
    “Yes. And your thighs.”
    “My thighs?” said Hailey.
“You are not taking care of yourself and you have a bad attitude. No wonder you
aren’t getting any work. I had expected more of you, Hailey. I am afraid that if your
performance does not improve immediately, I will have to break your contract. You will
be sent home and your career as a Tokyo fashion model will be over forever.”
“But I was just starting to—”
“No excuses. Do you understand or not?” said Yuki.
    Hailey nodded.
“Good,” said Yuki. With sharp, military-like precision, her booker strode out of the
    elevator.
Hailey had been expecting a layout similar to the high-rise they had visited the week
before: long corridors with generic doors lined up along them. Instead, she found herself
staring at a gleaming oak stage surrounded by row upon row of crimson velvet
upholstered seats. A dozen or so delicate crystal lanterns perched on the walls, bathing
the space in warm light. It looked like a London theater circa 1920s—only it was
hovering 190 stories above Tokyo. At the far end of the room, her booker and roommates
were already climbing the stairs toward the stage.Hailey paused for a moment, resisting the urge to snap a photo like some stupid
  • tourist, and hurried towards them. Her arms erupted in goose bumps as she made her way
through the cool, dim space, her shoes clicking against the wooden floor. Three chairs sat
in the middle of the otherwise empty platform. Yuki waited until the girls had each taken
    one of them before speaking.
“Client should arrive any moment. Good luck. I will meet you downstairs after.”
“You’re not staying?” said Jess. “Who is going to…translate?”
“That will not be necessary,” said Yuki.
Hailey crossed her arms and gazed out across the wide, empty space. If this was such
a great opportunity, where were all the other models?

EXCERPT:
Cara’s POV:
“You’re damn determined to get frisked.” The stranger called Bulldogger by the soldiers standing next to him held his hands loose but ready at his sides.
“And you’re determined to lose a part of your manhood.” Cara glared.
Bulldogger stepped into the line of the lasers dotting her stomach. His angry green gaze left her and found his cohorts. He raised his index finger and whirled it. She lookedback long enough to see the two men frown and then give her their backs. “You too,” hebarked. Luck and Rin balked. “Now.”
When they turned, Cara faced the cowboy. “What about you?”
“So you can sever my spine? I don’t think so.” His nod was slow, his eyes steady.
He’d demanded more privacy for her than she had reason to expect, and they’d wasted enough time. Cara unbuttoned the snap of her slim fitting tact pants, freed the zipper, and pushed them over her hips. Gravity made quick work, plunging them to her ankles and giving her access to all her weapons. Too bad they didn’t work anymore. The black lace of her bra hadn’t enticed him. She doubted the matching boy shorts could. At forty-five, she’d officially lost her touch.
Ever the gentleman, the stranger didn’t leer, but then again, his gaze didn’t leave her body either. Probably scared of losing a ball. And rightly so.
She unbuckled the double straps from her taut thigh and tossed the sheath and two small knives to the floor. Cara hitched her shirt, unwound that strap from her middle, and tossed it and the single blade down with the others.
“Satisfied?”
“Turn.”
Cara glared a hole through his forehead. He whirled that index finger again, while his neutral visage maintained a clinical interest. Still, it felt too intimate to be standing before only him in an open room full of people and guns. She slapped her long blond ponytail over her shoulder and swiveled on her heels, determined not to make anything of her unusual vulnerability. When her gaze lost his, and the mostly bare ass cheeks leveled on him, the humid air inside the old warehouse condensed on her back once more, threatening to give her away. Her feet shifted to complete the 360 with her pants around her ankles. The sooner, the better.
“Stop,” he ordered.
Damn.
“I charge by the minute,” she growled.
“Huh.” The rumble of his harrumph rattled its way across the shell of her ear from mere inches away. Her ruffled ponytail shot over her shoulder and smacked her collarbone. Heat centered her spine as the back of his hand clamped the dagger strapped to the clasp of her bra, running up the center of her back.
“I charge by the inch.” The rumble of his growl reverberated against her cheek. He dragged the hot metal from its sheath, pulling the damp material away from her skin. Gooseflesh spread across her shoulder blades. The sharp point skimmed along her spine.
A shiver zipped every which way, except the way it should’ve…which was no-damn-where.

The Retreat
Kelly St. Clare
(The After Trilogy, #1)
Publication date: August 30th 2016
Genres: Science Fiction, Young Adult
Earth is ruined. Humankind destroyed. And it’s old news.
Romy’s life is simple—for a genetically enhanced space soldier; pick up space junk with her four friends, and stave off the invaders fixated on stealing Planet Earth.
It isn’t much. But it’s temporary—only another 850 years to go, give or take.
When her crew tangles with a gulp-worthy alien mothership, Romy’s return to Earth is brought forwards at hurtling pace.
Strength comes from the unlikeliest of quarters.
As does leadership.
…As does betrayal.
EXCERPT:
Romy’s side of the battler must have torn away during landing. Only a few shredding battler walls remained. It was as though her side of the ship had been ripped off like a chunk of bread from a loaf.
The floor underneath her was gone, leaving her legs dangling. Romy herself was suspended by the harness, which dug into her torso. It was the only thing keeping her from falling three metres to the dry grass.
The bottom part of her battler segment had embedded itself into the ground on an angle. Romy’s end of the segment was immobilised in the air, forty-five degrees to the surface. She looked to have landed at the edge of a grassy clearing. Or maybe a forest, she amended, judging by the multitudes of trees before her.
Behind her, the ripped walls were flayed wide open, smoking, sparking, and hissing.
She took in the vast splash of colours before her with unseeing eyes. She was on Earth. Hanging above real ground.
Quite alone. And if her knot hadn’t . . . survived . . . she was quite possibly the only person, or being, on the planet. A numbness set in so deep that Romy could no longer feel the harness. Her head drooped as she struggled to regain her calm. She had to findher friends. That was an absolute. They were alive. She had to believe it was true.
She waited, willing her shaking hands to still until eventually they obeyed.
Inhaling sharply, Romy looked around once more.
The question was: How far did her section of the craft land from the others?
If it were a matter of hours, that would be okay, but anything more and she would require food and water. A post-global-warming Earth meant the food and water here wasn’t safe. The yellowed plant life confirmed that. The battler held supplies, but did shehave any in her part? And how much oxygen was in her suit? Romy’s heart began to quicken once more, and she forced the unfamiliar fear away.
First priority was getting to the ground. Under normal conditions she would take the chance and jump the three metres, but the injury to her ankle and the extent of the damage to her head caused Romy to hesitate. If only she could take her suit helmet off .. . but the air conditions had to be terrible. She wouldn’t last five seconds.
No, she decided. She’d pull herself up onto the back of her seat and see if there was an easier way out from the back of the smoking wreckage.
She sighed in weary exhaustion, not sure she had the strength to move a single finger. But that wouldn’t help her friends.
Romy released one half of her harness. Holding tightly to the strap, she released the second half of the harness—
Something gave. Not the harness, but whatever it was attached to, or attached with. For a moment Romy thought she might be able to salvage the tatters of her plan and still climb up. Until, with a loud ripping, the harness tore free from the rest of the chair.

EXCERPT:
“Why can’t I go in there and tell her I’m sorry? She needs to hear it from me.”
“No, she doesn’t because she won’t believe it. You need to do a lot more than tell her you’re sorry. Actions speak louder than words. And until you can show everyone you’ve changed, it’s best you stay away from her. It’ll only make things worse.”
“What if I go in there anyway?” I questioned, crossing my arms over my chest. I didn’t want to fight Evan, but I was getting desperate. I needed her forgiveness, for her to know I never meant to hurt her.
Evan huffed and closed his eyes. “You’ll have to go through me first. Lara doesn’t want to see you. She’s with someone else now.”
It was as if someone had sucker punched me in the gut, the air being ripped out of my lungs as I took the hit. Summer groaned and I glared at her. “Is that true?”
“Yes, but I don’t see how that is any of your business. She’s happy, so leave her be.”
“Fuck that,” I shouted. “I’m going inside.” I tried to push past Evan, but he blocked me. We faced off with each other, the tension rising.
Summer stepped between us with a hand on each of our chests. “Guys, this is stupid. You’re friends.”
I scoffed and backed away. “That’s where I beg to differ,” I said, glaring at Evan. “If our situations were reversed and it was Summer inside, I’d let you go to her. I would give you the benefit of the doubt and accept that you’ve changed. But you’re not going to do that, are you?”
Evan’s face softened and he sighed. “I would, brother, but this night is special for Summer and Lara. The last thing they need is you and Grayson battling it out. I have nodoubt he’ll come after you if you go in there.”
I faltered, the anger welling in my chest. “Fucking Grayson? That’s who she’s with?”
“Can you blame her? He was there for her, after everything you put her through,” Summer said.
Peering down at her, I hoped she could see the determination in my face. “You tell her it’s not over. I’m not going to give up.” With those final words, I jumped in my truck and sped out of the parking lot. The thought of Grayson touching her made me so goddamn furious. I didn’t care if she was with him . . . I wasn’t going to give up.
